Water Rescue – Vehicle Overturned into a Pond
June 13, 2010 – The Salisbury Fire Department Station 2 was alerted for an MVC with rollover at the intersection of Hammond Street and Priscilla Street. While units were en route, the call was upgraded to a special operations water rescue call, vehicle into a pond. Upon crews arrival, one vehicle was found, as reported, upside down in a pond, in approximately three feet of water with heavy mud and trees over the embankment. One victim was located out of the vehicle on the bank of the pond, and another was unaccounted for. Initially, civilians and Salisbury Police Department Officers were in the water attempting to locate the second victim. Command removed the civilians and SPD officers and put SFD personnel into the water, including divers. Crews were unable to obtain any information from the first victim; he was transported to PRMC by Salisbury PM1. SFD Divers had negative searches on the pond. Trees were removed from the thick embankment to allow a thorough search of that area, as well. After the tow truck removed the vehicle from the water, divers re-entered the pond for a second search, also negative. SPD Officers later advised they had multiple eye-witnesses state the second victim had run from the scene prior to units arrival. The scene was turned over to Salisbury Police and SFD cleared without incident.
